Dialogue in Silence Exhibition in Paris (La Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie 2003-2004)

Les Yeux du Silence
When the welcome centre for deaf and hearing impaired of Val de Seine Picardie (France) opened, the people of the working group and some leaders of this region were invited to visit the exhibition « Scènes de silence » held at La Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris between December 2003 and April 2004.
During fifty minutes, the visitors experience a guided tour of silence. The rules are not to talk, turn off the mobile phone and stay in the group. Immersed in a noisy universe of the city, the group is invited by a deaf guide to escape the cacophony.
One by one, they grab a helmet and the silence becomes total. With simple and reassuring gestures, the guide sweeps away the apprehensions and becomes a patient ambassador of a world rich in discovery. Little by little, a communication that was unimaginable before is established between the participants. A silent conversation begins…
